A Prehistoric Paddle Down The Choctawhatchee River Blueway?!

The Choctawhatchee River is a newly-designated Florida Blueway and the landing here is a great point from which to begin boat or paddle explorations of this section of the river. Springs are located both upstream and downstream. The site of the wreck of the steamboat Eighth of January can also be found not far downstream from Cerrogordo. Keep your eyes on the skies as you enjoy the river! Auburn University researchers believe they found evidence that Ivory-bill Woodpeckers still live downstream. These gigantic birds have been supposed to be extinct for many years. Numerous other rare plants and animals can be found all along the river and its tributaries.
